Milton Keynes Piano Workshop offers a full restoration service for our customers’
pianos.
Let our highly skilled craftsmen restore your piano to its original condition. Services
include re-polishing, re-pinning and re-stringing. Action re-building and regulating.

One question we are often asked is ‘What is a fully restored piano ?’
All pianos which are fully restored by us have the following processes.
Case
- The Piano is completely dismantled.
- All polish is stripped from the casework. All casework parts are repaired and sanded
back to the original wood.
- The casework is stained and polished to chosen shade and finish, ie, French Polish
or synthetic lacquer.
- All brasswork is cleaned and burnished to look like new.
Action/Keys
- The action is dismantled and thoroughly cleaned.
- The flanges (joints) are re-centred, new butt, spiral and damper springs are fitted.
- The butt leathers, felt notch cushions and damper felts are replaced. The hammers
are shaped or replaced if necessary.
- The keys are cleaned and burnished, any missing or damaged ivories are replaced.
The keys are re-bushed and new key bed
baizes are fitted.
- The pedal mechanism is overhauled.
Strings
- Rubbings and patterns of bass strings are taken and sent to string maker.
- The piano is completely unstrung.
- The frame is cleaned and re-gilded
- The sound board and bridges are cleaned and repaired if necessary.
- The pianos is re-strung using new German tuning pins and new strings throughout.
- The piano is re-assembled.
- The action and keys are regulated for the correct touch and response.
- The piano is tuned 5 times to concert pitch until stable.
